Horror genre cinematography Tips

The premises of horror films are all about tone, texture, and mood. Horror films are particular and are all about execution. The best kinds of blogs are those that have the ability to create an intense mood. The mood created adds to a better experience for the audience.

An important part of creating a film is the creativity that goes into creating it and how it is executed. Eventually, once a particular style or niche has been developed then it becomes a sequence that is noticeable in their films.

There are multiple important elements that create a mood such as sound design and cinematography. Five cinematography tips would be to shoot through things, underexpose, Use Haze, don’t be afraid of colored Gels, and find unique angles.

A lot of horror films are shot in closeups but it is advised to not do this because it is not as effective. A larger image that fills the frame rather than one that just shows a close-up of the actor's reactions helps add depth to a scene. Showcasing everything that happens in the scene allows the audience to get a feel for the environment and understand the tension being presented.

In terms of horror films, underexposing and hazing is the most effective way to shoot. This is because in a horror film there has to be a sense of mystery. When the light is not as exposed then more shadows are able to fill the frame it also establishes the tone of a scene.

Utilizing colored gels is a stylistic choice but looks appealing in the film. The favorite gel color for horror films is red, using colors should be used as the key and not the same way a photographer does it.

Horror Movies use very unique camera angles which give the audience a weird feeling and add to the scary mood the film is presenting.

In terms of my personal film, I will have to use very dark and hazy lighting so it is imperative that I learn to understand how to execute it and how to utilize color in order to set a mood for my story.

For my film, I would like to utilize blue light when shooting. That particular color provides a somber feel and will help my audience understand that the tone is mellow and sad.
