Cinematography

Storytelling is typically done through the use of art, a song, or a book. In modern times storytelling can be done through film and video. Cinematography is utilizing lighting and camera shots in order to record a film. Cinematography is a film or video made of images that are taken and showcase a moving image.

An important part to remember is that when it comes to cinematography the story must be told within the frame, whatever did not take place where the audience can see did not happen. What takes place in the frame and the types of shots taken determine how the story is told and portrayed.

Cinematography is all about motion. Frames are also interchangeable as the camera can change positions, swap lenses, and change the field of vision. This is useful but if it is not done with some form of purpose the execution will not be the best.

While the imagery is important it is best to keep your audience in mind. The people watching the film need to be able to feel some sort of emotion and connection to the film.
